Good morning
Grace and peace be unto you!
October is SIDS awareness month. Do you know of an expectant mom or one that has just delivered? Do they know about safe sleep for their baby? Have you heard of sids?
Sudden infant death syndrome is defined as the sudden, unexpected death of an infant younger than 1 year of age. It typically occurs associated with a period of sleep. SIDS is rare during the first month of life. Risk peaks in infants 2-4 months of age and then declines.
Sedgwick county has one of the highest cases of infant mortality in the country. African American babies are dying at an alarming rate. We must stop co-sleeping and putting our babies in situation that may cause them to suffocate.
Make sure that your baby is on their back. That the crib is free and clear of everything but them. No blankets, pillows, bumper pads, or other people. You have to be your child's biggest advocate. Go to the link below for more answers about SIDS.
